Default Are Nightfall skills quest rewards or puchase based

I did not play much of the pve preview. Were the skills quest rewards like in Prophecies or were they purchase based like in factions?

~Thanks.

In the preview, the system for skills is similar to factions. But how exactly it will work in the official release, there has been no official word on it. TBH as much as i dread it, it would seem like they would make us purchase the skills instead of quest rewards in Nightfall as well.

Same here... I only hope they introduce another way of paying for skills if we have to buy them. I dunno why they should cost platinum AND a skill point, but that's another topic.

during the preview we only had access to the starting island, where our new chars will begin, and at the time skills were only available to be purchased like factions. I hate this method as well, because it leaves me dirt poor. Hopefully the mainland will have quests with skill rewards like in prophecies.

Actually, if I remember right, there were some quests on the island that gave you skills. I'm not sure if the description actually included the skill, but I'm 100% positive I saw the "Skill Unlocked" popup when I turned in some quests (this was after I acquired my secondary).

Those were all for profession quests, they can't just give you another profession without teaching you to use some of the skills first 0_0

Yeah it's wierd - I think chp1 had a few things right (quests tied to skills all over, no locked doors - the combo worked), be shame if they went with the model that went wrong in chp2 (focus pvp, pve slopped in) - chp3 supposed to be pve focused right? So maybe we can still hope its done in a smart way and not just another money sink.

I think they should be available both ways, like prophecy.

I don't have a lot of Faction skills because I didn't want to pay for them... so much for "diversity", the supposed reason for the Buy Skill system.

The skill quests were absolutely horrendous and I hope they never come back. Having a bunch of quests that are worth nothing because I didn't know they existed and already bought the skills sucks hard. Make the quests give more money as a reward if it's too expensive to buy the skills.

I found the Factions way actually costs less for the skills overall. Granted in Prophecies I got Otyugh's Cry for free... but with the Factions way you get a skillbar loaded with the skills you actually use. The gold you get from quests pays for most of the early skills (when price is cheap), and eventually yes, you do pay 1K per, as you do in Tyria.

Make'm available at traders, and available from quests. People who need the skill, can simply buy when they can, and those without cash, can do the quests.

OR! For every quest reward ( imperial commendation for example ), you can unlock x amount of skills.

Holy crap, this is brilliant!

Skill Trader Coupons! Get one, two, three... for a quest, cash them in with a skill point for a skill!

Limited number of quests offering them, similar to Prophecies... and they can be tradable!

Absolute brilliance. ANet... take a peek at this!

Inho, skills should only cost skillpoints.

There is no reason for 2x work.

First we have to farm exp for points, then farm money to buy em.. pointless.

The original Prophecies model was better than in Factions: quests where you can get many, but not all, skills for a given profession with locations where you can buy whatever you wish (or what has to be bought). Coupled with better rewards a la Factions quests, as well as more quest variety (ie not A to B to A back to B to A) and I'd be pretty happy.

I like these ideas. Either one, or lowering the skill gold cost cap to ~500 should do nicely.

I liked the factions way since it meant you could actually select a build instead of having every ele being a pyromancer, every warrior using axe and so on. Really, just giving a bit more from gold and general gameplay will do nicely.
